Viet Nam and South Korea promote cooperation in atomic energy technology

On the morning of September 30, 2026, in Seoul, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan held a working session with South Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry and Resources Kim Jung Kwan to discuss cooperation in atomic energy technology.

The South Korean side shared its experience in developing the domestic atomic energy industry over the past four decades - spanning from initial reliance on imports and step-by-step localization to achieving technology mastery, establishing nuclear technology export capabilities, and deploying nuclear power projects.

Overview of the working session

The two Ministers noted substantial room for bilateral cooperation in research, technology transfer, and human resource development. Key avenues of collaboration include expert exchanges, strengthening linkages among research institutes, universities, and enterprises, and supporting Viet Nam in training technical, managerial, and nuclear safety personnel.

The two sides also exchanged views on the application of artificial intelligence in the atomic energy sector, particularly in design, simulation, operational monitoring, predictive maintenance, and safety enhancement. Cooperation in this area is expected to contribute to national energy security goals and sustainable development./.
