Viet Nam and Japan sign cooperation document to promote ICT and accelerate digital transformation

Viet Nam and Japan have signed a cooperation document on information and communications technology (ICT) and digital transformation, marking a step forward in bilateral efforts to advance the digital economy and strengthen collaboration in emerging technologies.

As part of Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's official visit to Viet Nam, on the morning of 2 May 2026 at the Government Office, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae witnessed the exchange of several bilateral cooperation documents between the two countries.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong and Japanese Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Imagawa Takuo exchanged a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Science and Technology of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan on cooperation in information and communications technology (ICT) and digital transformation.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong and Japanese Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Imagawa Takuo exchanged a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in information and communications technology (ICT) and digital transformation.

The document is expected to expand cooperation from core technologies to policy development and human resource training, creating new momentum for the digital economy. Cooperation will focus on artificial intelligence, including generative AI and large language models, next-generation 5G/6G networks, cloud computing, and internet safety and security.

The two sides will also strengthen coordination on digital economy policy, data governance and IoT application, while promoting joint research, expert exchanges and business cooperation. The agreement is expected to support Viet Nam’s digital transformation and further enhance bilateral cooperation in international forums such as the ITU.
