Viet Nam proposes three priorities to advance ASEAN -U.S. AI cooperation
<p style="text-align: justify;">Speaking at the U.S. - ASEAN AI Ministerial Roundtable: The Road to 50 Years of ASEAN - U.S. Relations, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan said VietNam regards artificial intelligence as a strategic technology and a key driver of national science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.</p>

The Minister noted that Viet Nam is accelerating AI literacy and adoption, while investing in data infrastructure, computing capacity, AI talent and practical applications for citizens, businesses and state agencies.
Minister Vu Hai Quan proposed three priorities for ASEAN - U.S. cooperation in AI.
First, developing AI talent.
VietNam is prioritising high-quality human resources in AI, semiconductors, big data and high-performance computing. The country is also strengthening collaboration among the Government, universities, research institutes and enterprises, while seeking to attract international experts and Vietnamese scientists overseas to gradually master core AI technologies.
Second, building sovereign and resilient AI infrastructure.
Viet Nam is investing in data centres, cloud computing, high-performance computing infrastructure, telecommunications networks and national data infrastructure. The country also places strong emphasis on cybersecurity, data security and trusted AI partnerships.
Third, advancing AI governance and institutional frameworks.
Viet Nam is working to improve its legal framework on data, AI ethics, cybersecurity and innovation, with a view to ensuring that AI is developed in a safe, transparent, responsible and human-centred manner. The approach is designed to enable innovation, rather than create barriers to it.

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Vu Hai Quan held exchanges with representatives of several leading U.S. technology companies on AI cooperation and digital infrastructure development.
Google representatives welcomed the growth of VietNam's digital ecosystem and expressed interest in expanding cooperation in AI. Amazon leaders said the company is considering expanding its presence in VietNam, including plans to develop a regional hyperscale data centre and position VietNam as a manufacturing hub for devices serving global export markets.
