Viet Nam encourages Qualcomm to expand cooperation in AI, semiconductors and R&D

<p style="text-align: justify;">Viet Nam has encouraged Qualcomm to broaden cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and research and development, while stepping up support for technology commercialisation, talent development and the innovation ecosystem.</p>

The proposal was made during a meeting in Ha Noi on July 17, 2026, between Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh and Durga Malladi, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Technology Planning, Edge Solutions and Data Center at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

The two sides discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in AI, semiconductors, R&D, workforce development and innovation.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh said Viet Nam was continuing to improve its policy framework and investment environment to support science, technology and innovation, with AI, semiconductors and R&D identified as priority areas.

He encouraged Qualcomm to provide stronger support for bringing research outcomes and technology solutions to market. He also called for broader training programmes, greater assistance for technology companies and innovative start-ups, and closer links between research institutions and industry.

The Deputy Minister welcomed the continued development of initiatives such as the Qualcomm Viet Nam Innovation Challenge and Launch to Prosper. He also invited Qualcomm to explore opportunities to engage with the national venture capital fund.

Durga Malladi said Qualcomm was expanding partnerships with Vietnamese technology companies, particularly in AI and semiconductors. The company also expressed interest in closer cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Viet Nam in workforce training, R&D capacity building and innovation.

Both sides agreed to continue discussions on specific areas of cooperation, contributing to the development of a stronger AI, semiconductor and innovation ecosystem in Viet Nam./.
