Viet Nam, Burundi promote cooperation in digital transformation and tech infrastructure

<p style="text-align: justify;">On July 28, 2026, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan held a working session with Mr. Ndikuriyo Reverien, Secretary-General of Burundi’s CNDD-FDD Party, along with his delegation.</p>

During the meeting, the Minister proposed that both sides step up the implementation of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), prioritizing digital transformation and information technology to pave the way for deeper and broader cooperation between Viet Nam and Burundi.

Minister Vu Hai Quan highly appreciated the progress in technological cooperation between the two nations since the signing of the MoU in November 2024. Over the past period, Viet Nam has actively shared its experience in formulating policies and legal frameworks for the development of the digital economy, digital society, and digital infrastructure, while providing reference materials in English and French to relevant Burundian authorities.

Minister Vu Hai Quan requested that both sides continue to effectively implement the signed cooperation contents outlined in the MoU. He also called on relevant Burundian agencies to support and create favorable conditions for Lumitel (Viettel in Burundi) to contribute further to Burundi's development. Furthermore, the Minister respectfully invited Burundian leaders to attend Digital Week in Viet Nam to meet with Vietnamese and international enterprises and expand opportunities for exchange and investment.

CNDD-FDD Secretary-General Ndikuriyo Reverien expressed his deep impression of Viet Nam’s development achievements, affirming that Viet Nam serves as a model of resilience and development for Burundi to learn from. He emphasized the urgent need to modernize the postal system, develop Internet infrastructure, and promote digital transformation linked to economic restructuring in Burundi. Accordingly, he urged Vietnamese technology companies to continue expanding their investment in the country.

In addition to cooperation in infrastructure and institutional framework, both sides identified human resource development as a key pillar in their bilateral cooperation program. On Viet Nam's part, practical technical support and training packages have been rolled out, including the donation of 50 desktop computer sets and the granting of Master’s degree scholarships in Computer Science at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology for Burundian officials./.
