Promoting Viet Nam - Thailand cooperation in science, technology, and innovation
<p style="text-align: justify;"><b>On May 28, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yodchanan Wongsawat to discuss orientations for advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) cooperation between the two nations.</b></p>
During the meeting, Minister Vu Hai Quan highly appreciated Thailand's STI potential and expressed gratitude to the Thai side for delivering the diplomatic note confirming the continued implementation of the Agreement on Science, Technology, and Innovation Cooperation between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Minister Vu Hai Quan also shared insights into Vietnam's major ongoing strategies aimed at driving STI development and digital transformation, identifying these sectors as new growth engines for the economy. The Minister emphasized that both sides should:
-Strengthen partnerships between universities and research institutes of both countries through joint research programs and investments in laboratories focusing on emerging technologies;
- Initiate concrete and practical cooperation projects to lay a solid foundation for larger-scale collaborative programs in the future.

Both sides agreed on the following action plans:
-Joint Committee Meetings: Convene the 1st Meeting of the Viet Nam - Thailand Joint Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation at the ministerial level in Thailand in 2027. The 2nd meeting is scheduled to be hosted by Viet Nam in 2029.
- Strategic Tech Cooperation: Foster collaboration in strategic technology sectors, including semiconductor chips, biotechnology, and food technology, while actively supporting the startup and innovation ecosystems.
