Ministry of Science and Technology and OECD boost cooperation on innovation, data, and preparations for APEC 2027
<p style="text-align: justify;">On the morning of June 25, 2026, during a working session with an OECD delegation led by Deputy Secretary-General Yasushi Masaki, Minister Vu Hai Quan stated that Vietnam is developing key orientations and policies to drive economic growth based on science, technology, and innovation (STI).</p>

Highly appreciating the OECD's role in policy advisory and the development of the innovation ecosystem, Minister Vu Hai Quan proposed that both sides strengthen cooperation across the following pillars:
-Supporting Viet Nam in refining its development policies for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation;
-Enhancing expert exchanges and high-quality human resource training;
-Expanding cooperation in data and STI statistics;
-Promoting coordination in strategic technology sectors, including AI, digital technology, semiconductors, and nuclear energy;
-Supporting Viet Nam in successfully hosting STI-related events within the framework of the APEC Year 2027.

An overview of the working session.
OECD Deputy Secretary-General Yasushi Masaki affirmed that the OECD consistently regards STI as one of its core priorities, while highly evaluating Viet Nam's increasingly vital role in the ASEAN region as well as in international cooperation mechanisms.
He stated that the OECD will continue to support Vietnam in implementing the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), stepping up human resource exchanges, fostering data cooperation, and assisting in the execution of the newly launched Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Policy Review.
During the working session, various units under the Ministry of Science and Technology also proposed expanding cooperation with the OECD in the field of nuclear safety, participating in expert exchange programs at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), gaining access to specialized databases, and strengthening collaboration in building an STI indicator system aligned with OECD standards.
Concluding the meeting, both sides agreed to:
-Continue enhancing policy exchanges regarding science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation;
-Step up cooperation in data, statistics, nuclear energy, and human resource development;
-Coordinate the implementation of recommendations from the FDI Policy Review, aiming to attract high-quality investment inflows coupled with science, technology, and innovation;
-Strengthen coordination in preparing for the activities of APEC 2027, to be hosted by Viet Nam./.
