BMGF-VN helps more than 12 million people use the computer and access the Internet

On December, 16, in Hoi An, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly organized a conference to summarize the “Improvement of Computer Usage and Public Internet Access Ability in Vietnam " Project for the period 2011-2016. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong attended the event.

According to statistics, from January, 2012 to October, 2016, the total time of computer usage in 1,900 projected points (provincial/district libraries and 1,000 post offices as culture points) is more than 21 million hours; the total time of  Internet access is more than 15 million hours and more than 12 million users.
 
After 5 years of implementation (from 2011 to 2016), the project has equipped more than 12,000 computers, 1,900 printers for 1900 projected points; 120 computer sets for 3 training centers in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.
 
Besides, the project coordinated with local authorities to support and encourage the initiative and creativity of the public library system by organizing training courses on computer usage and Internet access; free tutorial classes for children to learn English as well as basic computer training,...
 
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong confirmed the success of the project. The project initially helped people in projected regions with opportunities to use computers, access the Internet and contribute to ICT development in rural areas, bring new life to post offices as culture points, new start for the library system in villages. To maintain the achievements, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong proposed the project complete its plan for sustainable development.
